This feature has been in the beta since earlier this year, and now gradually rolling to everyone. The vice versa of this – iOS to Android chat migration has been available since last year. Although, WhatsApp noted a few limitations for exporting chats.
Android to iOS Migration
After all these years, Google made it easy for people switching phones to export all their device data from one phone to another. But at the end of the day, it’s the duty of app developers to make app content migration easy. And WhatsApp has been painful in these terms, especially when people are switching from iOS and Android or vice. With the community’s demand, WhatsApp finally enabled support for chat migration from iOS to Android last year, although for select Android devices. And now, it’s enabling the chat migration from Android to iOS. This has been in testing since early this year, and now rolling out to everyone, as per Mark Zuckerberg. Well, there are some restrictions though! Users who intend to export their WhatsApp data from Android to iPhones or iPads should have the Move to iOS app in their fresh iOS device (factory reset if needed), and both the devices running Android and iOS should be connected to the same Wi-Fi. Plus, the Android device should be running Android 5.0 Lollipop or above, while the iPhone should be on iOS 15.5 or later. Moreover, the WhatsApp app on Android devices should be on v2.22.7.74, and for iPhones, it’s v2.22.10.70 or above. Once everything is set, you can connect both the devices to the same Wi-Fi and proceed with instructions on the Move to iOS app. This migration can export entire WhatsApp account data – which includes chats, account information, profile photos, chat history, media, and settings.
