While earlier reports claimed that the next flagship chipset will be called Snapdragon 895 or Snapdragon 898, the latest news that’s coming in speculates that both names might not materialize as Qualcomm might rename the new chipset to Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Snapdragon 898 to launch as Snapdragon 8 Gen1?
Tipster Ice Universe on Twitter claimed that Qualcomm will launch Snapdragon 8 Gen1 on November 30, which is the opening day of the company’s Tech Summit. The company has planned to retain only number 8 from the old moniker, and will reportedly do away with the triple-digit naming of the upcoming chipset. The internal codename of the new chip will still be SM8450 and future products will continue to follow that format.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Expected Specs
From various reports hitherto, we have learned that the so-called Snapdragon 8 Gen1 will be built on the 4nm process and deliver up to 20% more performance than the existing Snapdragon 888 chipset. It is believed to feature a four-cluster core layout, which will include an ARM Cortex X2 core clocked at 3GHz. This will be clubbed with 3 Cortex-A710 medium performance cores running at 2.5 GHz and 4 Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.79 GHz. Ice Universe has shared that the chipset scored 1200 and 3900 points in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively. Besides the rumored specs and the new nomenclature, we are yet to know much about this System on Chip. But as soon as we gain any more details, we shall keep you posted.
