DisplayMate report on iPhone 13 Pro Max
In order to thoroughly examine the OLED display performance of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, DisplayMate conducted a series of tests and measurements by Mobile Display Technology Shoot-Out in their lab. It reveals that Apple has employed XDR display with ProMotion technology for getting the adaptive refresh of up to 120Hz. The report of DisplayMate states that iPhone 13 Pro Max has an Absolute Colour Accuracy of 0.5 JNCD (Just Noticeable Colour Difference) which is invisible to human eyes. The phone utilizes two colour gamuts – sRGB and Wide DCI-P3 where the latter is 26% larger than the former. The phone exhibits a minuscule shift in the intensity scales with Average Picture Level (APL) which provides stable image contrast even with variable APL content. In terms of brightness, the iPhone 13 Pro Max supports 1051 nits when auto-brightness is on and in off mode, it delivers 846 nits of brightness. With the APL shift, screen brightness changes by about 2% making the display even impressive. The new iPhone reflects 4.6% of approaching light which DisplayMate claims closest to the lowest. The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with Mobile HDR supporting standards for HDR10, Dolby Vision, and 4K HDR contents similar to 4K UHD TVs. The Night Shift feature enables a decrease in blue lights. The brightness is measured to decrease about 24% at a 30-degree viewing angle which is much lower compared to 55% brightness in general LCD displays.
