The list includes Sony, Alps, Luxshare, Genius, Largan, and for the first time ever – LG Innotek. All these put together will help Apple to fix the focus problem in selfie cameras, and even a larger aperture. Apple is expected to launch iPhone 14 series later this year.
New Cameras in iPhone 14 Series
Since iPhone 11 series, Apple hasn’t upgraded the cameras of its iPhones, even for the Pro models. But this is about to change, notes analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his recent blog post, where he said Apple has dumped Chinese camera makers due to quality issues and selected a few new ones. The names include some prominent companies like Sony and LG, and also the budding imaging firms like Genius, Alps, Luxshare, and Largan. Apple will continue to use the primary sensors from Sony, while the lenses will be procured from Genius and Largan, and the focus module from Alps and Luxshare. All these team up to hone the cameras of the iPhone 14 series, which should see a major push in years. More specifically, Kuo notes that the front camera of the iPhone 14 will have a big change, aided by Cowell and LG Innotek (for the first time). Rumors of Apple partnering with LG Innotek have been in the news since last month, as the Cupertino-based company has ditched Chinese camera makers citing quality issues. These new companies aim to address the autofocus issue in iPhone’s front camera, resulting in better shots in photos and video. Further, there would be a six-part lens this time, upgrading from a five-part lens currently. And the front camera’s aperture too is said to be larger (f/1.9) – up from f/2.2 (12MP) since iPhone 11 series. Other leaks include all the iPhone 14 series starting from 6GB RAM, Pro variants having a new wide camera with a 48MP sensor, capable of shooting 8K videos.
