This is to increase the ways Apple could earn revenue, as it started focusing much on services rather than hardware sales. Also, Gurman stated ads coming to Apple TV as well, and a potential low-cost ad-tier plan similar to other rival OTT platforms.
Ads in Apple Maps, Books and Podcasts
Form the last couple of years, it’s evident that Apple is focusing much on its services rather than hardware to reap reliable benefits. And one factor it’s investing heavily is in advertising – which saw a 238% growth to $3.7 billion in 2021. Thus, it’s now thinking of expanding them – says Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who stated ads could be coming in Maps, Books, and Podcasts apps. Currently, we already see ads for promoted apps in App Store, where app developers can pay Apple to have their apps placed higher in search results. And these are going to be more, says Gurman. Apple may bring ads to the App Store’s Today tab, where it’ll show apps in card format with the word as “Ad” placed beneath the app’s name. Also, you may see them in individual app pages highlighted in blue in the “You Might Also Like” section. Aside this, we shall see ads in Maps app – where the store owners could pay Apple to have their stores highlighted or recommended whenever a relevant search is made by the users. This works similar to App Store’s search like typing “puzzle games” or “photo editor” to see promoted apps showing up first. Besides this, Apple’s Podcasts and Books apps too may serve ads, where publishers can buy the ad spaces in each app to show their content up. Gurman also revealed the possibility of ads coming to Apple TV, where you may be recommended movies or TV shows by promotors. Apple is also said to be testing a low-cost ad-tier plan, similar to what Disney+ and Netflix are trying to do. The platform already costs $4.99 a month, with ads only shown in between the Friday Night Baseball live streams.
