Apple has reportedly paused spending or lowered its budget significantly on Twitter after Musk’s takeover, which stirred the platform in many ways. Well, as things between Apple and Musk have now settled, the former has resumed its ad spending on the latter’s social media.
Apple Ad Spending on Twitter
Several reports have earlier suggested that Apple is one of the major advertisers on Twitter – with the Cupertino-based company spending over $100 million every year on the platform. While it’s benefitting both companies, Elon Musk’s takeover has triggered Apple to pause their spending on Twitter! And it’s not just Apple, but over 50 of the top 100 advertisers on Twitter have stopped their ad campaigns or significantly reduced their spending budget – citing inconsistencies of the platform caused by Elon Musk. Well, this seems to have settled down eventually, as many advertisers, including Apple, have returned to the platform now. Elon Musk thanked all the advertisers for showing up on the platform again while also admitting that Apple is their largest advertiser.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 4, 2022 He earlier accused the Cupertino-based company on several fronts, including their 30% cut on App Store transactions. He went on to question Apple’s stance on supporting free speech after it stopped spending on Twitter and rumors that Apple may ditch Twitter from its App Store. Well, this led Musk to amusingly call for making a new smartphone if Apple and Google boot his Twitter from their app stores. But a couple of days after, Musk met Apple CEO directly and solved the “misunderstandings“. Thus maybe, Apple is back on Twitter with ads.
